I've learned a lot about production from guitarist and producer Stephen Lipson's work. My favourite tracks of his are Grace Jones's Slave to the Rhythm (1985), Simple Minds' cover version of Prince's Sign o' the Times (1989) (although Steve would agree the original is better), Yazz's cover version of the Corgi's Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime (1994) and S-Club 7's Don't Stop Movin' (2001). All beautifully produced. By listening, I learned from Steve ways of handling digital multitrack recordings to produce extraordinary effects.
