Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) |
Favourite pieces of mine by Stravinsky - gosh, I like everything of his that I have heard, including the atonal chamber music. I suppose top of the list might be The Firebird (1910), Rite of Spring (1913/21), Song of the Nightingale (1917), Pulcinella (1920) and Agon (1957).
Aspects of Igor Stravinsky's music that have influenced me are the brilliance and colour of the Russian school of orchestration he inherited, the complexity and originality of his musical forms, the way he handled rhythm in continuously varying cells, the way he uses bitonality and the sophisticated way in which he fused traditional musical styles.
